A Little About Us: Will, Nita, and Dale

Dale grew up wandering the woods around his native home in SE Missouri and playing bass in local bands. It was there in the woods that he learned to identify plants. He would transplant many from the deep woods into the yard around his family home. This really established his love of gardening.

In the years that followed, Dale learned to cook and loves creating wonderful dishes from the plants he grows. Dale particularly loves HOT peppers, the hottest peppers known. Because these plants are hard to come by, due in part to their very long growing time, Dale will be growing a variety of the world’s hottest pepper plants in the greenhouse.

Nita began life on the ranch of her grandparents in central Arkansas. Later, in Idaho, she joined 4-H and FFA where she showed dairy cows and judged livestock. Following High School, Nita joined the US Marine Corps where she served on Active Duty for over 13 years achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. She retired from the Army National Guard having served 20 years. After being away from Idaho for too many years, Nita returned “home” where she and Dale were introduced by a mutual friend who said often, “You two just talk the same talk.”

Having grown up with livestock, Nita brings her love of animals into Dale’s garden. She has rediscovered an old dream of animal husbandry. With our registered Scottish Highland cattle and some rare breeds of chickens, Nita will finally get to play by selecting the best of the best livestock for breeding.

Into this picture Dale also brings his son, Will. Will is following in his dad’s creative steps by learning to play guitar and enjoying creating things like tie-die and screen printing his own t-shirts designs. He also loves all the animals, especially the cute fluffy babies! Will is particularly adept at coming up with fun names for each animal. Last year one of our chicks turned out to be a very uniquely colored and beautiful Americana rooster. Will said, “He needs a rock star name to go with his rock star appearance. We’ll call him Austin Marago!”

Wind Ranch’s name comes from the combination of all our initials: Will, Nita, Dale… WiND. It also reveals the very nature of the ranch as the wind is always blowing here and the nature of our God whose breath blows through our beings giving us life! And whose creativity inspires us!

What we do

Produce outstanding farm produce and livestock

After raising our first handful of chicks we were thoroughly convinced the farm life was for us! We were ready for the full deal. We found an absolutely lovely little 5 acre lot outside of Eagle and set about making it our own. With the Spring of 2014 Wind Ranch of Idaho was born.

We arrived with a few hens, some young chicks, and in the tradition of the ole West… Big Dreams! Since then we have expanded to about 30 producing hens, several ducks, rabbits, turkeys, pigs, and a small fold of Scottish Highland cattle. We have planted a vineyard, orchards, and berries with plans to add a greenhouse to provide plants for our gardens and yours.

We will be selling produce from our vineyard, orchards, and gardens as well as fresh eggs, eggs for hatching, chicks, breeding stock (chicken and Highland cattle), and stock for meat. Contact us to check on availability.
